Tall painting video

I recently saw this video via Stumble Upon. It is amazing. But do you want to know the thoughts I kept having throughout the entire three minutes and twelve seconds?

That is a whole lotta paint.
I wonder if they are using cheap paint.
What if they are using expensive paint?
That is a whole lotta paint.

I know, I have issues.

  1. I recently posted about this too. It's Holton Rower, grandson of Alexander Calder. I've heard he uses arcylic paint, but have not found anything to verify that.

  2. Hahaha - I'm with YOU! We could never afford this but I bet that artist makes enough on the sale of his work to pay for the paint - either that or he has a great deal w/a paint store!

  3. I was thinking some of those thoughts also - but from a place of how could I do this with my group of young children and afford it. Since this video has been out there have been early educators adapting this with some success - one did over large tubes placed sideways, another had small wooden block towers. The paint issue was solved by using odds 'n ends of house paint - latex=acrylic. The paint this way is recycled or low cost odd lots from a hardware store. We plan on trying this summer- outdoors.

  5. PR Mom, I was thinking the same thing. But judging from the acid wash rinse, I think she was going for that whole retro vibe. Or maybe she was wearing her crappiest pair of jeans because she knew she would prolly get paint on them!!

  6. Yo,Ladie's,

I concur with your comments on the amount of paint that they were pouring! My colleagues and I thought we'd have to scrounge a TON of housepaint from people's garage's. Then we realized that no one would have THOSE colors in their garage except for Sandy Calder's grandson!
